FAQ: GROUP COACHING
-
How is group coaching different from one-to-one?
You grow through relationship. The group becomes the catalyst—expanding perspective, skills, and possibilities you can’t access alone. It’s in the activity of creating with the group that you discover who you are. Group Help is the new self-help.
-
What happens in a group session?
A group session is like a campfire. We share problems and stories, we listen, question, and sometimes use expressive arts or improv-style activities to build the group. We don’t rush to fix; we practice being human together in a relational way to create new possibilities.
The kind of coaching I’m offering is inspired by the social therapeutic group methodology, created by the East Side Institute. Do you wonder what the experience of being in a group like this is? Watch
-
How big are the groups?
Typically 6–10 participants—small enough for depth and trust, diverse enough for rich learning.
-
Can I try one session before committing?
We usually ask for a minimum 2-month commitment for continuity. Occasionally we open “guest/drop-in” nights so you can experience the work first. -
Do I have to share personal details?
No pressure. Participation includes listening, reflecting, and contributing at your pace. Curiosity matters more than confession. And yes, you will learn how to share your vulnerability, how to see, hear and touch, be seen, heard and touched.
-
What if I miss a session?
Life happens—just let us know. You can join by phone or rejoin the flow next time; we’ll help you reconnect. Missed sessions will be billed, unless it has been mutually agreed in advance. -
Who leads the group?
Facilitated by ICF Professional certfied coach Aurélie Harp (and collaborators like Marian Rich or Jess Herbert), trained and certified in social-therapeutic, creative, and relational methods.
-
Is this online or in person?
Both. We offer weekly in-person groups (NYC) and international online groups (Zoom).
-
How much does it cost? Do you offer sliding scale?
Fees are set up together in the intake session. A sliding scale is available to honor both accessibility and the value of this work. Fees are updated every year and can be revisited when needed.

What can you expect?
You will have opportunity to develop
Shared vulnerability : often we hold back from admitting to certain thoughts, judgements or feelings out of fear of being exposed in a shameful way. In a group setting, we discover how many of our deepest fears and insecurities are human and ordinary.
Collective reciprocity: a group offers a unique environment for development, where participants are encouraged to be honest, demanding and compassionate with one another.
Expanded perspectives: people in the group give new perspectives on things and issues that we are facing, challenging us to be open.
Meaningful relationships: in a group you learn that you are not alone and that you have companions committed to supporting you.
-
What is the link between social connections and emotional development?
Research consistently shows that meaningful social connections are one of the strongest predictors of emotional well-being and longevity.
Harvard Study of Adult Development (Waldinger et al., 2023): Relationships are the #1 determinant of happiness and health.
World Health Organization (2025): Social disconnection is now considered a global public health concern.
Studies in positive psychology and creative expression demonstrate that collaborative, playful environments reduce stress, enhance cognitive function, and foster resilience.
