Less drama, more theater
“All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players”
William Shakespeare, As You Like It, Act II, Scene 7
Theater, like life, is the creation of the ensemble, our ability to listen, respond, and to be other than who we are.
In our social therapeutic groups, every encounter, every moment of engagement, is a chance to create something new, with love at the core.
Theater as a Tool for Changing the Narrative
James Baldwin wrote:
“The bottom line is this: You write in order to change the world, knowing perfectly well that you probably can’t, but also knowing that literature is indispensable to the world. The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change it.”
In Wemanity Coaching, theater is a tool and drive for shifting perspectives. Our practice is about challenging fixed identities and rehearsing new ways of being. Much like Baldwin describes, when we alter the way we see reality—even by the smallest degree—we open a portal for imagination and transformation.
In our groups participants engage in collaborative storytelling. We explore new roles and perspectives. We practice moving beyond limiting belief systems. We embrace the unknown, and learn to create meaning in the face of uncertainty. This is the work of both theater and what we think therapy could be: reimagining the world, moment by moment, in community with others.
The Power of Performing Ourselves Into the Future
Social therapeutics group building is a way to reimagine, heal, and create new possibilities. In a world that often alienates, isolates, and silences, we provide a space where people come together, engage in collective meaning-making, and rehearse new ways of being. We invite people to engage in the performance of possibility. We move, we perform, we engage in the practice of becoming.
The Future We Are Creating Together
We are not rehearsing for the stage—we are rehearsing for life. Our social therapeutic groups are spaces where love, performance, and creativity intersect to create new possibilities for being in our chaotic and often brutal world.
And so, we keep performing. We keep building. We keep imagining. “Less drama, more theater”. Always more theater.
